Food safety issues have become so complex that traditional attention to cleanliness and maintenance is not enough. HACCP, the new tool to enhance food safety management, looks at food preparation step by step to identify the root causes of potential problems and to establish corrective or control measures. This food safety approach is being adopted by the USDA, FDA, and numerous state and local health departments. It is advocated by the Colorado Restaurant Association Education Fund, AFC Colorado Chefs de Cuisine, and the American Dietetic Association, and is being utilized effectively by such major chains as General Mills and Taco Bell.

Health science - Health science is the discipline of applied science which deals with human and animal health. There are two parts to health science: the study, research, and knowledge of health and the application of that knowledge to improve health, cure diseases, and understanding how humans and animals function.

University of Tennessee Health Science Center - The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis is part of the statewide, multi-campus University of Tennessee system, a subdivion of the Knoxville-based University of Tennessee proper. The Health Science Center includes the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, the School of Biomedical Engineering, graduate medical education programs in Knoxville, Chattanooga and Nashville, family medicine centers in Knoxville, Jackson and Memphis, and public and continuing education programs across the state.

Office of Public Health and Science - The Office of Public Health and Science (OPHS) is an agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The office is under the direction of the Assistant Secretary for Health and Human Services, who serves as the Senior Advisor on public health and science issues to the Department Secretary.

The Fitzsimons campus of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center - The Fitzsimons campus of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) is a campus of the University of Colorado which is being developed using the facilities and grounds of the former Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. It is scheduled to open in 2007 adjacent to the planned Colorado Bioscience Park Aurora, a research park which will utilize 160 acres (647,000 m²) of the former grounds of the Army base.
